Step 1: Connect Your Wireless Router
The network schematic for this project is represented in Figure 2-2??”the wireless
router connects between the modem-to-computer connector, taking the place of the
nonwireless router.

Follow this simple sequence to establish the connection between your computer
and the router:
Connect the Ethernet cable from your DSL or cable modem to the WAN/
Internet port on the wireless router.
Connect the Ethernet cable from your computer(s) to the LAN ports on the
wireless router.
Step 2: Configure the Wireless Router
Before we get too concerned about going wireless, perform the router configuration
as you would in Project 10, verify that your computer(s) can ???dial up??? and connect to
DSL and establish Internet access, and then set up the wireless configuration. Following
the instructions of the new router, you may have to change the IP address of one
or more computers to access the configuration menus.
Although the passwords, menus, and some of the settings may appear different between the
various brands of routers and firewalls, they all do the same things.
Open your web browser, access the router??™s configuration menu, and locate the
settings for wireless, as in the example shown in Figure 2-3.
