"Delivering Carrier Ethernet: Extending Ethernet Beyond the LAN"

According to the company, since that time they have
shipped more than 44,000 RPR ports to customers.
UTStarcom UTStarcom??™s NetRing 10000-I is an STM-64 multi-service optical transport
system that enables the delivery of SDH services and data services including:
ATM, Fast Ethernet, and Gigabit Ethernet. It unifies the functions of a next-generation
SDH/SONET ADM, Digital Cross-connect System (DCS), ATM / Ethernet aggregation
switch, and Resilient Packet Ring (RPR) in a single shelf device.
It also supports continuous and virtual concatenation at VC-12/3/4 in SDH as well
as Generic Framing Procedure (GFP), Link Capacity Adjustment Scheme (LCAS)
and provides standards-based Ethernet service functions. The device uses the GFP
protocol to map Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet services into NxVC-12/3/4 circuits.
In addition, it provides STM-1/STS-1 and Inverse Multiplexing for ATM (IMA)
interfaces.
Zhone Zhone Technologies, Inc., incorporates RPR technology into their MALC packet
loop carrier platforms which are designed to support transport and distribution of
voice, data, and video services. MALC facilitates the migration to packet networks by
allowing carriers to deploy TDM and ATM technology and provides a path to migrate to
IP packet access and transport as needed.
