"Delivering Carrier Ethernet: Extending Ethernet Beyond the LAN"

4-port 10/100Base-T and 2-port Gigabit Ethernet RPR over SONET interface cards
operate at Layer 2 on Ethernet circuits. RPR cards create customized partitions between
TDM and packet bandwidth. The platform also supports dual port OC-48 units,
which double the OC-48 density of the platform from 60 ports to 120 ports in multishelf
Flashwave 4500 systems.
Huawei Huawei offers the Quidway NetEngine 40 as it??™s entry into the RPR arena.
It comes in three configurations the NE40-2, NE40-4, and NE40-8. They have Layer
3 forwarding capabilities and can be used for routing applications and features 2.5G
POS interfaces. There are two kinds of modules for the NE40 line: switched and routed.
The routed modules support routing features such as wire speed IP/MPLS forwarding,
advanced QoS, and MPLS VPN, while the switched modules support Layer 2 VLAN
forwarding, VLAN aggregation, VLAN Trunk, L2QoS, RSTP, HGMP (Huawei Group
Management Protocol), and VPLS (Virtual Private LAN Service).
Lucent Lucent??™s primary RPR platform is the Metropolis DMX Access Multiplexer.
It is a SONET/SDH platform that integrates Ethernet/SAN/SONET and is designed
to fit between LANs and core backbone networks.
