Performance monitoring
counters are accumulated for: errored fairness frames, errored seconds, severely
errored seconds, and unavailable seconds.
Errored Seconds An errored second is a second in which any of the following
occurs:
?– A fairness frame error is detected.
?– A miscabling defect was present.
?– A keepalive timeout was present.
?– A physical layer failure was present.
Severely Errored Second A severely errored second is a second in which any of the
following occurs:
?– More than a predefined threshold of fairness frame errors were detected.
?– A miscabling defect was present.
?– A keepalive timeout was present.
?– A physical layer failure was present.
Unavailable Seconds Once available, the RPR service transitions to unavailable at
the onset of 10 contiguous severely errored seconds. Once unavailable, the RPR service
transitions to available at the onset of 10 contiguous seconds, none of which are classified
as a severely errored second.
Data Path
The MAC supports several paths along which frames move. Frames added by the MAC
either directly, or indirectly from the client, are transmitted via the add paths.
